A different feature on Neil Storey…. all about his record collection… in Record Collector magazine – where else?
The magazine mentions Storey has one of the biggest collections of Island Records releases in the world, a passion that began before he joined the label as press officer in the 1970s… which may explain why he’s editing the renown series of books called The Island Book of Records.
As part of the magazines monthly series on Collectors, in their December edition, there’s a the three-page article on Storey where he explains the how, why and when.
” I began collecting without realising i was collecting”
There’s a good chunk explaining Storey’s career in various music companies and labels, and also how he tracks down (sorry for the pun) his vinyl. There’s also sidebars of images showing his must unusual lp, the most valuable LP, what elusive gem he is still searching for… and he’s listed his favourite LPs… Bob Marley of course…. Nick Drake of course… then there’s Puccini.
Records Collector magazine can be found in most magazine and bookshops, but it also has a healthy presence online.
The Record Collector website is worth a look, not only for the copious amount of well-written information but also for the collector community it has developed, with competitions and newsletters. For the avid collectors they even have a “rare-record price guide”
