There’s a fabulous website dedicated to Robert Palmer. Certainly worth a look – if only to read their extensive description of Volume 3 of the Island Book of Records (1971-72)
As you would expect, their website is packed with photos, songs, articles – just masses and masses of information and details about Robert Palmer but as they say, “It’s an unofficial site but the most comprehensive.”
They point out this is the biggest volume (so far) of the Island Book of Records series and that it covers 80 albums which were released in 1971 and 1972 – including ones that were not issued: Jess Roden (first solo album), Mike Harrison’s group – Junkyard Angels and Neil Tucker’s only solo album.
They also talk about the features in the new book: including one of John Wood and Geoff Frost telling the story of Sound Techniques, the round table principle in the Island offices and the day Bob Marley played football at a school in Peckham. (The photos are pretty stunning too)
The website also mentions the two massive timelines we’ve created: one for Traffic and the other for Cat Stevens. Both include all the events , gigs, recording sessions and so on which they undertook in a year.
And, of course Robert Palmer features in this volume. This is when he a part of Vinegar Joe, and once again, photographer Brian Cooke has delved into his archives and found rare photographs for us.
