Why is volume 2 of the Island Book of Records PINK?

Here we go again! The second volume of The Island Book of Records is being finalized as we speak. This volume covers Island Records releases of 1969-70.

What a busy couple of years it was! Besides man walking on the moon, Concorde took off for the first time, The Female Eunuch was published and Carry on Camping was the most popular film in Britain (now, admit it, who knew that?) Prince Charles became Prince of Wales, and The Isle of Wight festival was born with Bob Dylan and the Band topping the bill while in 1970 Jimi Hendrix headlined. On the other side of the Atlantic there was another festival headlined by Hendrix. Woodstock, but it didn’t have the larger 600,000 audience that Isle of Wight did. Who knew?

Why is it the pink edition? Well, most of the labels were pink. Logical to us! That is, up until Bronco’s first 45 and the first Alan Bown LP – both featured the new design, what collectors call the pink-rim label.
